3 way swivels

Postby rinkerdink » Sun Apr 20, 2014 12:00 am

Hi,

I tend to fish a paternoster type rig, mainly in an attempt to avoid crabs. Picked up some nice 3 way swivels in Anaconda during one of their crazy sales. They were of the type where 2 swivels are linked (the eye of one is threaded onto the shaft on the other between the barrel and the eye). I have used all these up now, I'm not a massive fan of the crane 3 way swivels as I regularly find my hook lengths wrapped around the main line after reeling in (this could be only happening on the retrieve).

Any idea where I could source some of these locally (Australia)? I'd be looking to get 50-100 so I don't find myself in this position again soon :)

Cheers

Chris

Hi Chris,

Are you fishing from a boat or surf casting? If you are surf casting you could use a pulley rig with a short hook trace to get the bait up higher. Another option would be to use some foam in the bait/on the hook to keep the bait up off the bottom.

Regards,

Matt

Hi Matt,

Thanks for the reply, I fish from the shore and the pulley rig is a definite viable alternative, cheers. I made a mistake, I love crane swivels it's the crossline ones I struggle with :-)

Have you tracked down any swivels that suit you yet?

Yep, they're the ones. Found them in my local tackle shop in 1/0 - 2/0 sizes, $10 for a pack of 10 seems expensive for what they are. Looks like thats what I'm looking at... Was hoping to buy a box of 100 or so and save some money.

Hi Chris

Have you tried Fleabay (ebay)? Search for 'crane swivel', there should be heaps but not sure how good they are (quality wise).

Most Ebay ones tend to the suspect end of the trade in terms of quality.

Sometimes they are effectively identical to the good ones, but the hardening process might have gone a bit wrong, or not been done at all... I have a bargain set here right now that fracture without warning either from faulty tooling or incorrect heat treatment.

I have some crane type triples available to me through the dealer network, I will get a price on lots of 100 if you wish?

Cheers

Oh, and what size/rating are you after?
