Swing it high, swing it low, drag it across the ground? Discussion on casting technique.

Getting Back into Practice

Postby Jeremy Schrader » Tue Dec 26, 2017 10:58 pm

It's been a few months since I was on the field with the bigger rod so it was good to get out and see how the timing has been effected by only going fishing and casting the little 18 gram plug.

First casts see that i need to wait longer on the backswing and I did towards the last few cast but can still wait longer for the lead to step out fully. Will look forward to the next session as I need to bet back into form for some comps in the new year :D

So what have the rest of you guys been doing ?

Before the Xmas rush I had been doing a fair amount of practice on the ttr. I was really trying to slow the start of the turn down as All i was doing was going to quickly at the start of the step around and being forced over the top with no compression. Usually once or twice a session I turn a lot slower and end up with a lot heavier rod and a lot more line off the reel. The last three sessions or so have really been affected by a 60 kmph side wind so the backswing timing and speed has been a bit of a battle. Casting over water at high tide so can't change position.

Had another session on Saturday in lead up to the comps that I will have in the USA. Planning on just borrowing a rod and as such will just stick with my full length T1000 as that is the rod that is available for loan when I get there :D

Saturday showed how the weather can affect the distances and as the heat and humidity went up so distance came down. Still good to get out there and send a few down field :D

Had another session , this time weather was much kinder with cool conditions and leads performed much better even though I was using the lighter 125 gram this time out. The plan is to work on the 100 and 125 gram in the coming weeks as these have produced the best for me in the past.
